APOELLA at Four Seasons Mykonos: Christina Plakopita Talks to The Authentics

This year marks a landmark moment for APOELLA: our first store in Mykonos, inside Four Seasons Mykonos. On this occasion, our founder Christina Plakopita sat down with Stavroula Kleidaria of The Authentics for an in-depth conversation about the brand's journey, its new home on the island of the winds and what lies ahead.

From Greece, to the world

After a decade studying and working in London and New York, Christina returned to Greece in 2011 and was struck by a new generation of Greek creatives working with remarkable energy and quality. The wish to share that side of Greece with international travellers led to APOELLA in 2014. Its name comes from apo Ellada, "from Greece". It began as a resort concept store at Daios Cove in Crete, bringing Greek designers together with international names.

Collaborations with Sani Resort, Costa Navarino and Ikos Resorts followed, then a first step abroad, to Spain, and the launch of the APOELLA collection, designed and produced entirely in Greece. 2026 has been a landmark year, with a second pop-up at Astir Beach in Athens, a new store at Ikos Resort Kissamos in Crete and now Four Seasons Mykonos.

A contemporary Greek identity

At its heart, APOELLA champions the Greece of today: a country of light, architecture, art and a summer that has become a way of life. Greek designers stand alongside international names on equal terms, and many of the brands that joined APOELLA in its early days are still part of the family, now making their mark internationally.

"We believe in choosing fewer, better things, and in building relationships that grow with us."

A new chapter at Four Seasons Mykonos

Mykonos holds a special place in Christina's heart. For her, opening on the island with Four Seasons is a natural continuation of everything APOELLA has built since 2014, and proof that a Greek brand can stand alongside the most demanding names in global hospitality without losing touch with its roots.

What makes it even more meaningful is the architecture. The resort was designed by the legendary Nikos Valsamakis, now 102 years old, who has revived the spirit of old Mykonos. It evokes a traditional Mykonian settlement, complete with a village square where the kafeneio and APOELLA wait to welcome you. Since architecture is such an integral part of APOELLA's DNA, being part of this project is a source of great pride.

AVRA: the SS27 collection

Following PHOS and GAIA, our new collection AVRA is named after the gentle sea breeze that brings relief on the hottest summer days. It introduces linen blended with silk and lace with shell-inspired patterns, in fluid, airy silhouettes that move with the wind. Fittingly, Mykonos was the setting for its first campaign images.

Authenticity, above all

Throughout the interview, one idea keeps coming back: staying true to who you are. After thirteen summers, what fulfils Christina most is that APOELLA has never compromised its identity, and that customers now associate their summers with the brand.

"In an age when almost everything can be reproduced instantly, authenticity belongs to what has roots."
